Saturday Post

May 22nd, 2005

Here’s one good read for all bloggers. Pinoy blogger Bing eloquently presented an article about an existing reality in pinoy bloggosphere. A reality that perhaps everybody is already aware of but hasn’t took the time, found the exact words, or perhaps mustered enough guts to express it. Bing’s article “Some Popular Bloggers” presented a clear, straightforward, critical and I should say, correct assessment of some popular blogger’s tendencies to behave like “Superstars”. Kudos Bing!

Yesterday I had a conversation with my Dad about relatives whom I recently met in bloggosphere. After tracing some links in our immediate family tree my Dad told me that he and Teacher Sol’s grand father are cousins. This confirmation makes Teacher Sol a neice of mine.

My team in the English football league, Arsenal, won the 2005 English FA Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against their arch-rival Manchester United. Arsene Wenger’s Gunners humbled the loud and flamboyant Sir Alex Fergusson’s red devils. HURRAH ARSENAL!!!

Last night Bambit and I went to Onstage at Greenbelt to watch a Broadway musical Guys and Dolls. It was a graduation presentation of the 2005 Repertory Philippines Summer Workshop. One of the actors is our blogger friend Ralph. We met (for the first time) Ralph briefly after the curtain call. The actors did well and Ralph literally nearly broke his leg. He showed us a scratch in his left leg -an injury he got while moving the props on stage. Encore Ralph!!

hi sam… i did not muster enough courage actually but believed in freedom of expression. i thought it is a social responsibility to be aware of the feelings of fellow bloggers. the world of blogging should not be considered an arena but a place where to express our beliefs and at the same time to admonish those who are forgetting where they came from. thank you for mentioning me in your blog. it is an honor.

(parang mas sanay talaga ako tawagin ka na Sam :P)…it’s really good knowing you and realizing that my immediate clan does not comprise all the Gaerlans in the world. I would definitely visit you when I go back home. Hopefully I could have a nice conversation with your father about my Lolo Gregorio.

I think it’s really brave of Bing to express her feelings. I salute her. Noong ipinagtatanggol ko yung dalawang blogger friends ko sa blogs nila when a spammer was really embarrassing them and leaving nasty comments and calling one of them a psycho, I was scared to comment there but I did. But I expected the spammer to retaliate to me. It’s good iginagalang pala nya ang mga guro (sana nga! :P).

You’re right about saying that everyone (or at least a good number) is already aware of the tendencies of some popular bloggers in the local blogosphere, but can’t exactly put their thoughts in writing. For some people like me, it’s in the tip of our tongues. Thanks Bing for posting the pioneering post. I hope this would be a lesson to all of us pinoy bloggers.

Popularity, like power, has the ability to corrupt. Let’s stay away from the dark side all right? Otherwise, we’d have to wait two episodes of Blogger Wars before we get to “Return of the blogger”. =) =) =) (something tells me this particular poster is itching to watch episode III)

@bing: it’s me (us) who should be thanking you. Your post served as an eye-openner for many, a spark that can start a praire fire (and it has just started).

@sol: it’s ok to call me kung saan ka kumportable, para sa akin ang importante nalaman kong magkamag-anak tayo :)

@jangelo: thanks for the comments. i agree with you, indeed popularity like power corrupts… we should stay away from the dark side…hehehe…

@ralph: looking forward to meeting you again too.
